HELL v. 4.1

README

IMPORTANT!
THE ROM IS NOT CORRUPTED!

There are no enemies or powerups, but this is not the ROM being broken. This technically is a glitch,
but it is meant to be in the game. This hack would not exist without it.

... Well ... there actually ARE powerups ... but you must
take advantage of a trick in order to access them.
When you hit certain [!] blocks, a mushroom noise will be heard and all the adjacent blocks will stop
flashing.

Move right so that the block you hit is within one block from the left side of the screen.
DO NOT allow the block to leave the left side of the screen.

When the block is near the edge, runjump under it and hit it fom below. Mario will then act as if he
got a powerup, such as a 1UP or a super mushroom. This will only work, however, if the block is not
touching any other blocks on the right or left. It is important that you know this because you have
to be big in order to finish stage 4p2.

On a side note ... here is a bit of backstory. After Mario has lost his last life, he is sent to
hell. Here he meets Satan himself ... He tries to reason with him and try to get him to let him
out, and Satan agrees, allowing Mario escape if he makes it through 6 challenges, granting
Mario freedom and Satan a bit of entertainment. Now he must attempt escape or else be trapped
forever in purgatory. If mario touches the left side of the screen, Satan will see this as an act of
cowardice and instantly kill Mario.

Some parts of the game may be very broken ... as I have not yet got round to fixing them yet. If you
spot an issue that needs adressing, say something in the comments of the game's page on Zophar's
domain.

Here is a list of the types of stages ...

OVERWORLD
The natural setting of the ... well ... underworld!
Full of rocks, bricks, ruined fortresses and some shrubbery.
Has a distinctly brown feel.

DUNGEONS
Dark, scary abodes of lost souls.
Built from blue bricks and green pipes.

OCEANS
Yes. There are oceans even in Hell.
They are pink though ... very odd.

CATACOMBS
Despite the cheery music, these caves are lined with skulls.
Not a happy place to be. You should be glad you spend only a little time in them.

FORTRESSES
Unfortunately, Mario's pathway is often blocked by vast walls even he cannot jump over.
So he must fight his way through the occasional fortresses that provide the only pathway through
the walls.

GRAVEYARDS
Finally, the scariest of all the places, the graveyards are haunted by boos that lurk in the darker
corners of this majorly grey landscape.
